Job Description: The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation offers one new fellowship each year to an individual who demonstrates an interest in philanthropy, public policy, social and environmental justice issues, the nonprofit sector and/or community service in accordance with the goals of the Foundation. The fellow acts as a junior program officer, taking increasing responsibility over the course of two years in evaluating grant proposals, visiting with grant applicants, assisting with grantmaking administration, working on projects of significance to the Foundation, and providing additional support to the Foundation staff as needed. Through the grant process and related programs, the fellow gains experience with nonprofit organizations, Foundation trustees, public policy advocates, and other leaders across North Carolina. Each fellow has the opportunity to assist in furthering projects related to the five focus areas of the Foundation: community economic development, democracy and civic engagement, the environment, pre-collegiate education, and social justice and equity. At the same time, the fellowship is structured so to enable the fellow to engage in personal professional development concerning issues of interest to the fellow and of importance to the Foundation. The fellowship will provide a competitive compensation package including salary, medical and dental insurance, life insurance, opportunities for professional development, and reimbursement of expenses incurred through Foundation business. Residents or natives of North Carolina and/or recent graduates of institutions of higher education in the state are eligible to apply. Further qualifications include strong communication skills, both written and verbal; the ability to multi-task; the desire to contribute to an ever-changing work environment; a sense of responsibility and personal initiative; confidence and poise; willingness to work as a team player; and respect for diverse communities and leadership. Preference is given to applicants in the early stage of their careers. The Foundation is committed to building a diverse pool of candidates and encourages applications from people of color.
